Project Description

DICTATOR OF THE YEAR AWARDS. (Special). A yearly satirical look at the state of the world’s dictators as if they were to be lauded for their behavior.
Dictator of the Year Awards
TV – Special (1-2 hours)
Premise: a once-a-year special where Dictators are ‘honored’.
A “Mockumentary”
Show is set up as a real awards show. The host(s) come out in Tuxedos and with smiles and light banter they talk about the state of the world and compliment the worlds Dictators for their ‘accomplishments’.
They pretend that it is ‘the 10th annual Dictator of the Year Awards’, when in fact it is the first show.
The host(s) tells the audience that in honor of the shows 10th Anniversary, they are going to do a retrospective of their “Hall of Fame” members.
“The hosts walk into an art gallery setting with a written sign saying Dictator of the Year – Hall of Fame. On the wall are portraits of each dictator and a plaque noting their ‘accomplishments’
Hitler: Germany. In power: 1933-1945. Ideology: Fascist
Started WWII. Killed at least 11milion people.
Engaged in genocide against the Jews (6 million), Gypsies, Homosexuals, Disabled persons and others.
Stalin: Russia. In power: 1924-1953. Ideology: Communist
Killed at least 20 Million people, including many Russian people. Sending anyone suspected of anything to the Soviet ‘Gulag’s” – slave labor camps – where the harsh conditions killed millions.
Mao Zedong: China. In power 1949-1976. Ideology: Communist
Responsible for the deaths of between 40-70 million of his own people.
Pol Pot. Cambodia. In power 1975-1979. Ideology: Communist
Killed at least 2 million of his own people. Infamous for the “Killing Fields”.
Led the Khmer Rouge faction from 1963-1998.
Idi Amin: Uganda. In power: 1971-1979 Ideology: Varied
Responsible for the deaths of between 250,000-500,000 of mostly Ugandan people.
After the ‘retrospective’ the host(s) announce the ‘runners up’ – Dictators who didn’t quite make the Finals this year, but urges them to keep trying – “maybe next year”.
The host(s) then announces the latest member of the Hall of Fame. A retrospective is shown.
Next, the host(s) announces this year’s finalists for The Dictator of the Yea. Four finalists are announced one at a time. Their ‘accomplishments’ are noted.
Finally, with much pomp and circumstance, a winner is announced.
Since they will obviously not be in attendance, someone from a human rights group such as Amnesty International, will accept the award in the behalf.
