COMMON GROUND – (Game Show – half hour). Contestants are given 2 words that look dissimilar and have to come up with a word that defines both. For example: ‘Worry’ and ‘Guitar part’. Answer = Fret. Letters to the answer are revealed one at a time until someone gets the right answer.

Premise:

4 Contestants are shown two (2) words and they have to find the ‘Common Ground’ between them.

Set:

Stage Left: Large Video Screen, Center Stage: Emcee’s podium, Stage Right: podiums for the contestants with individual tote boards behind them to track their scores.

 

Rules:

The contestants are shown two (2) words on the video board
They are then given 5 seconds to try and guess the ‘common ground’.
If a contestant rings in and guesses correctly, they are given 10 points. If they are incorrect, they cannot make any more guesses for this clue.
Next, the length of the answer is revealed as such: _ _ _ _ _ _. The contestants now know the answer is 6 letters long.
If they answer correctly, they still get 10 points. If they answer incorrectly, they cannot make any more guesses for this clue.
Next, the letter in the middle, or closest to the middle, is revealed.
The contestants are given 5 seconds to guess the answer.
If a contestant rings in and guesses correctly, they are given 7 points. If they are incorrect, they cannot make any more guesses for this clue.
Then every 5 seconds, another letter of the answer is revealed. The letters are revealed from the middle outward with the last letter being the last one revealed. The first letter is never revealed.
If a contestant guesses correctly, with 2 letters revealed, they get 5 points.
If a contestant guesses correctly, with 3 letters revealed, they get 3 points.
If a contestant guesses correctly, with 4 letters revealed, they get 1 point.
Final:
At the end of the allotted time, the person with the most points gets to move on to the Final Round. In the event of a tie, an additional word or words are shown till one contestant prevails.
In the Finals, the winning contestant is shown pairs of words, just like in the opening round. They are then asked to find the Common Ground.
The contestant will have 90 seconds to guess as many correct answers as they can.
Correct answers are worth 25 points. No penalty for wrong answers.
They are given a letter in the middle of the answer. Correct answer is worth 20 points.
If they do not know the answer, they can buy a letter for 5 points (but not the first letter). They can buy up to 2 letters for each clue. Correct answers with 2 letters are worth 15 points. Correct answers with 3 letters are worth 10 points.
The contestant always has the option, at any time, to say “Pass” and then they will move on to the next set of words.
The contestant will win cash on a graduated scale:
1-5 correct answers = $500@
6-10 correct answers = $750@
10+ correct answers = $1,000@
